Ceramic Abrasive Grains For Coated Abrasives

Updated: Dec 20, 2019

The ceramic abrasive is manufactured by the single sol gel method, which belongs to the sintered abrasive. Each individual ceramic abrasive has a very small grain size of only 100-300 um, which is a few percent of the crystal size of ordinary corundum abrasive grains.

A F46 Grit abrasive contains hundreds of millions of grains. When grinding, the traditional fused corundum abrasive grains are flattened and passivated after being polished on the working surface. Under the action of grinding force, the abrasive particles are easily detached from the abrasive tools and have a short service life. The whole wear process of the ceramic abrasive prepared by the sol-gel method is also the self-sharpening process of the abrasive particles themselves. During the service life, the surface layer of the abrasive particles is blunt micro-grain under the action of grinding force from the abrasive grains. When it falls off, it constantly exposes a new sharp grinding edge, so that the abrasive grain is always in a sharp state. Abrasives made of such abrasives have long life, good self-sharpness, high cutting efficiency, and are not easy to burn workpieces.

The ceramic abrasive prepared by the sol-gel method differs in the abrasive fracture behavior due to its different microstructure. Ceramic abrasives appear to be broken along the crystal fracture, while the traditional fused corundum abrasive grains are mostly broken by transgranular fracture. The abrasive grain toughness of the ceramic abrasive is about twice that of the conventional fused corundum abrasive.

JCT Abrasives’ Blue Ceramic Alumina has the microhardness of HV2000-2100, with Ball milling toughness of 69% (take F60 as example).

With the development of modern tools and machine tool industry and alloy industry, the application of high-precision equipment has put forward new requirements for the grinding industry. With the requirement of precision accuracy, the difficulty of grinding new cemented carbide, as well as the rising cost of artificial labor and even more strict environment protection requirements, the grinding processing industry is developing in the direction of “high speed, high efficiency, high precision and green environmental protection”. Therefore, in the grinding of new composite materials, especially alloy materials, the abrasive products with ceramic corundum as the main abrasive can be rapidly developed and applied. JCT Abrasives' abrasive products have been used in batches in hundreds of impellers, abrasive belts, sandpaper, ceramic grinding wheels, resin grinding wheels, etc., for grinding stainless steel, titanium alloy, nickel alloy, low carbon steel and other materials.

Cloth: Thickening treatment on cloth to prevent the abrasive particles from falling off due to excessive wear of the fabric, and to ensure the cutting state of the abrasive grains under stress.

Resin:It is recommended to use special liquid resin to ensure high strength and high viscosity after curing.

Coupling agent: According to the selection of resin and abrasive, choosing the right coupling agent can effectively improve the abrasive adhesion.

Coating: Cloth and abrasive surface coating treatment can greatly improve the efficiency of product application.
