China Abrasive Materials Weekly Price (15-21 Feb): An upward trend in prices after Spring Festival

After Spring Festival holiday, due to the lack of spot goods in the market and the increase in the price of the raw material alumina, the price of white fused alumina in China has been raised by about RMB 100/ton.

Since most of Henan's white fused alumina production enterprises were affected by environmental protection control and frequently stopped production before the Spring Festival holiday, most enterprises are executing previous orders and are more cautious about new orders. Affected by this, it is expected that the price of white fused alumina may remain firm in the coming week.

After the Spring Festival holiday, as most of the downstream abrasives companies started operation, and most of them have rigid replenishment requirements, the supply of brown fused alumina has become increasingly tight. In addition, some companies indicated that the production costs of brown fused alumina have also risen due to the increase in the prices of raw and auxiliary materials, so they expressed their willingness to adjust the price of brown fused alumina.

This week, the price of black silicon carbide in Gansu has a strong motivation for the subsequent increase. First, the price increase of raw materials such as anthracite in the early period is much larger than that of silicon carbide. Second, starting from January 1, 2021, the electricity price in Gansu will increase. It is expected that the price of black silicon carbide in China may rise in the coming week.

This week, most green silicon carbide manufacturers in Ningxia have not resumed production, but the companies have sufficient stocks to supply the market. Therefore, the price of green silicon carbide has remained stable. It is expected that before March, the price of green silicon carbide may run smoothly. However, it is worth mentioning that the recent rise in anthracite prices has been transmitted to green silicon carbide companies, which may further affect their production costs.
