China Abrasive Materials Weekly Price (2-8 MAY): Downstream demand remained weak
Since May, the overall price of alumina in China has been running steadily. Although the downstream market demand for white fused alumina is low, supported by the cost of raw materials, prices remain stable currently. As Zhengzhou, of Henan Province, has implemented lockdown management, some local white corundum production enterprises are affected. It is expected in the coming week, white fused alumina prices may be in weak and stable operation.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Zhengzhou, Xuchang, Zhoukou of Henan Province, Zhengzhou City implemented strict lockdown measures, and the local abrasives industry enterprises production and operation were partly affected. Brown corundum production capacity in Henan is still insufficient, and ore is the main factor. While the production situation in Guizhou area is better compared to Henan area. Brown fused alumina production costs remain high, most enterprises want to raise prices, but limited by the weak demand in the downstream market, prices are slow to rise. It is expected that in the coming week, brown fused alumina enterprises will continue to keep product prices stable.
This week, limited by the low industry downstream demand, as well as the gradual recovery of black silicon carbide production capacity in Gansu, China's black silicon carbide prices have seen a slight downward adjustment. It is expected that in the coming week, with the slow recovery of black silicon carbide market supply, China's black silicon carbide prices may be in weak and stable operation.
In addition, according to industry news, there will be environmental inspection on the smelting condition of black silicon carbide factories, then the silicon carbide production capacity may be impacted, and prices may again go upward.
This week, despite the weak demand in the downstream market, but supported by the cost, it is expected that in the coming week, the price of green silicon carbide may hold firm.
